Phoebe, I'd ALWAYS dreamed of a black-and-white large-tiled floor kitchen! But my mental image has a more delicate look with a quirky, wispy iron table with a glass table-top (kind of like a glass-bottomed boat) and plenty of green hanging plants in the sunny windows of a smaller space. The plants would go neatly with the emerald ceramics.

There's something so delightfully malleable about that big checkerboard pattern in a kitchen -it's so versatile! It can go cozy and comfy, it can go retro chic (think 50's diner), it can go ultra urban. I just love it!

wow, i love those green tiles. we tiled one of our bathrooms with a wall of light green penny tiles, but this is such an incredibly bold statement! i sort of see the emerald as an accent, maybe as a big swath of backsplash?
